Hello all, I just got a pair of Thomson slides model 2DB08. They came with servo motors and glass encoders. I'm new to all of this and especially to servo motors. If you recognize the pics below, can you give me any hints on how to use it or the brand/model? I believe it's a Superior Electric but can't be sure. The top picture is the PCB assembly with the coils and other small components. The bottom pic is the entire motor along with the encoder mounted at the end of the slide. http://www.roque.net/servo.jpg Thanks! Julio |

| Julio, That's a nice slide. I recently built my CNC out of the same unit. I used it for the Y axis. I removed the coils, magnet and encoder and substituted a pulley driven by an external servo/encoder. It seems to be working quite well. The original has that giant magnet which I assume would have given it a huge amount of inertia. I am saving the encoder for the next project. Don B |

| Yes indeed, very nice. I don't use those any longer and replaced them with THK rails and screws. One thing that came up after a few months on that slide was the wear out of the plastic screw nut. I believe these were built for pick and place equipment and for that application it worked fine. All in all, I got my money's worth out of it and it built my current machine from scratch. Welcome to the forum! JR |

| JR Wow, I did not really notice how old the original post was. Anyway thanks for the info. I have an extra screw nut I'll hang on to then. I did replace the bearings from the solid "plastic" inserts to some super opn ones. So far so good. Have a good one, Don B |
