Hi I'm new here. Well my question is, does "absolute encoder" always require a computer to operate? Are there inexpensive Gecko G340-like drivers that will interface with absolute encoders without the need of host computer?

Basically what I'm looking for is an absolute encoder+driver setup that is computer independant (Initial computer setup requirement is OK but should be running without the computer once setup. Naturally I'm rulling out computer card type drives) All I need is simplest 1 axis position-feedback control of the servo, no fancy stuff (positional feedback should be absolute though) Preferably not too expensive.

I'll appreciate any pointers. Thanks.
