Motors Up in SMOKE

Hi

Anybody ever work with Allen Bradley 1391des drives before , I’m trying to set them up on a CNC mill with the Camsoft system know matter what settings I change on the drive it doesn’t respond to the controller. I’ve also smoked two parker Z620 servo motors already trying to set this thing up I don’t know what else to do besides dig a big hole and Barrie my losses Thanks for any help

Buy me a Beer?

How did you manage to smoke two motors? The drives can be set for current limit, I would make sure the drives can control the motors, before hooking up to the Controller, I assume it is Galil card output?
See if you can control them ok with a analogue signal input from a battery box or similar.
Also get them working disconnected from the machine at first.

The drives have auto tuning on them I’ve only been able too make that work once. I talked to Camsoft and they said to make the drives dumb., and to set them up for torque mode, tried doing that no luck, they also have settings for custom motors set that all up to match the motors nothing, then I selected a motor on their list that was close to mine that’s when the smoke came out

I have only used the 'non-intelligent' 1391 drives when using Galil, I try to stay with the Allen Bradley motors, but I am suprised that the drive protection didn't kick in first before smoking the motor.
I believe I have seen post here on others using the DES drives, but I think they used AB motors.
