Hello all :
I was lucky to find a Shibaura 2 axis robot at the Portland GEARS show. It needed some small repairs but for $35 I don't *****. Its in great shape. I have pulled the DC servos out of it and I was wondering if I could use them for a spindle motor for my Taig CNC mill. If not I will put them back in and use Gecko drives and make a small CNC router with the 2 axis of the robot.
The label has Rated out put 80 W, Rated speed 4000 rpm, Rated torque 2KG/CM. Can anyone tell me about this motor ? Can it run on 36 VDC ? ( I put 12vdc to it , lots of torque ) Is the 2 KG/CM enough torque for the mill ?
I got the controler box with it ( no hook up data, lots of wires ) So I could use info on it also.
Thanks Mitch ..................

P.S. have you considered a three phase motor and VFD for your spindle. if you shop used, these can be found very inexpensively.
The motors rated at 4000 rpm, so run it on 12vdc and check the rpm, the 4000 maximum will give you the max voltage, it will be proportional.
For servo's, at 4000rpm you can afford to gear down quite a bit, this will increase torque and increase the motor to load inertia by the square of the reduction.
