are theese fanuc servo motors worth anyting?!

I got those fanuc ac servo motors from a STAR KNC 25/32 lathe.
thay are pretty big and heavy and they are dated 1987.
they worked without problems when I unmounted them and I used to manage that same lathe before we had it discarded.

suggestions, what to do?!

Buy me a Beer?

Fanuc motors always fetch a fairly good price on ebay. do a search there for comparison.
They are AC type so Fanuc is about the only system they could be used on.

Al The Man - Thanx, so you mean they ar not suitable if I wanna build a cnc project on my own because they are ac fanuc? I dont know much about these things.

FPV GTp - I have only those five, the two big ones are the same, of course everything is for sale at the right price and I havent thought of a price yet, the prices on ebay seem to be quite up and down. but why not, come with an offer if you want, i think the shipping cost to australia is going to be expensive

Did you happen to keep the controls and servo amplifiers for the lathe when you discarded it? Those are probably worth much more than even the motors.

Unless I'm wrong which can and does occur (I try not to admit it, LOL), Fanuc AC servo amps want to be driven by Fanuc controls due to their unique commutation logic. Al or George will surely correct me if I am wrong.

When it comes to DIY CNC, it is my not so humble and hopefully currect opinion that Fanuc DC servo motors should be easily interfaced with those drives offered by Rutex and/or Gecko are easily interfaced to the typiccal DIY cnc systems quite readily ala MACH, EMC, et al.

If this is the case, my take on interfacing information that I"m exchanging/offering is correct and good and proper (God, I hope so) for DC servo drive info.

Otherwise, asside from Fanuc DC servo's interfacing with Gecko or Rutex DC drives, you should be OK/cool. Al, George, please straighten us/me/all of us out at this point, PUL-EASE!!!! Hope to goodness that my take is right and I haven't steered y'all wrong - I honestly didn't mean to if I did....

There are ways to get Fanuc motors to work on other drives. Rutex brushless drives can be setup for Fanuc if I remember correctly, and Skyko sells a version of their Pixie interface card (converts S&D signals common with programs like Mach to +/-10v signals that commercial drives typicly use) that is designed to accomidate Fanuc motors on standard drives. http://www.skyko.com/products/

Edit: I should mention the Pixie cards only work on 2000ppr encoder Fanuc motors

"Edit: I should mention the Pixie cards only work on 2000ppr encoder Fanuc motors"

Somewhat true. The only Fanuc encoders I had to test with when I was writing the CPLD code on the Pixie were 2000 line encoders. I did a version for 2500 line encoders which should work fine. It is just a CPLD code change (for the Fanuc version of the Pixie which has a larger CPLD to allow room for the special hall commutation logic). Of course the regular Pixie (for motors that have the standard 3 hall sensor outputs) will work with any count encoder. People sometimes get confused when they see the 2000 count Fanuc encoder requirement for the Pixie P100-F20

I am now curious if Rutex drives have commutation logic to deal with Fanuc motors. I would be somewhat surprised if they do. It is pretty easy to get a rough 3 hall type output from the 4 Fanuc signals, but to get a true evenly spaced hall type output required using the Fanuc commutation signals AND the Fanuc encoder signals.

Very cool KTP, I was just quoting the literature on the website.

I did check Rutex, I havn't looked at them in a while and I had thought they had a Fanuc version, but after taking more time to go through the site again, I see no mention of Fanuc.
