Can someone confirm if i have a broken Servo

My Y axis is acting a little funny. i would jog it when way fine but if i let go of the button then press the other direction it starts to pulse and not move. Ill let go and hit the same button again and it will either do the same thing or it will start moving. all at the same time if it starts to to pulse. Mach3 still shows the y axis moving normally. is my servo gone to crap and need to be replaced or is there a fix?

Swap wiring with X axis and see if you get the same problems. If X axis servo acts the same, then problem is not in the servo motor.

well wasnt able to just switch cables but i did take my servo off my 4th axis and replaced the Y axis with it. Im still getting the same result. right in the middle of the program it starts to lock up and pulse. so i dont think its the servo anymore (brushless servo). i am using a Mach3 system on my Comet milling machine. (looks just like a bridgeport). Anyone else have any suggestions i should try? i can post pictures of my set-up if anyone wants to take a look.

This is mostly trial and error. Do you still have a problem with a different program? The issue may be the driver for that axis. Can you switch drivers?

I just replaced the driver and it's still doing the same thing. Funny thing is its only the y axis. Not sure what else to do. Would like to know how to check motor frequency

cking motor 'freq' is not of value. when u say u swapped x&y drives, did u also swap the MOTORS themselves? confusing, sorry, i cannot tell from what u wrote. if u did not swap the MOTORS themselves (or the drives and motors together is fine too) then u cannot knos if the motor is bad or not. from ur description motor magnet pieces may have come loose inside and allow some motion then jamb up. but no telling what to check next until u make it clear if you swapped motors and the problem did not follow it.

what is the control mgr and type? what are the motor and drive mfgr and nos?

do u have linear scales for feedback they can cause ur symptoms. if so, did u swap them and see if problem follows them?

could be mechanical. u did not say if the trouble axis moves freely by hand with little friction? does it bind when moving in that direction by hand? u gotta eliminte this too to narrow down the area of problem....

where r u located? maybe another member is close by who can help??

Well I got it working again. Looks like i just needed to play with the trimpots on the driver it self. The axis was probably slightly sloppy and was losing position.
