I will need to build a machine like this soon: Here About what Kw servos will I need? I don't need the ~2,500 IPM travel maybe like ~500 IPM max. It will move slow most of the time because cutting stone. I'm thinking I can get it done ~35K or less. With some eBay items in the mix ![]() That machine costs ~250K Are there servo drives that can drive Kw servos with step\dir signals?

| Hi Dennis, Nice little machine! When making a granite kitchen, do you start with a granite block the size of your whole kitchen and carve it out? Yes, a lot of servo drives can take step/dir signals. I have a 7Kw Parker Compax, and that's the middle of the range. They go up to 19Kw. But that's just an example, there are others in the same range. The nice thing with Compax is they take step/dir from the controller and resolver from the motor. Using resolver you are more free to choose motor, also other brands. This is very important if Ebay is your supplier. When the drive use a proprietary motor feedback (Fanuc and others) you have no choice in motor. If you buy your drive on Ebay, find the documentation before placing your bid! A servo drive without documentation is just a bunch of electronic parts. It is not very common to find ballscrews and linear slides in the flagpole size on Ebay. Will they not become budget busters? |

| ^^ If you look around more on the site where the big router is, the guy has a lot of pictures of the process. From slab to kitchen. Good advice on the drives!! My estimate of the the long slides and balls screws new is ~$7K. Did you see the BIG THK rails that I got in the "Linear Motion Forum"? Those are for the different project. What is the about price for the drives you got?
