u never mentioned before that u get an error trying to connect serially. also please believe me, after 37 years working with kollmorgen I can guarantee u that the 3 wire approach is the way to go.

but i digress; u now list an error on serial - that is trying to tell u ur problem! i dont have drivegui here at home on my play computer so cannot help right off but u r close.

i assume u have internet connection on the computer that talks and says this? if so, tell u what.... if u download free small program teamviewer.com and install it, i will offer to come into ur computer today with u and get u connected. if interested, install it then email me (my email is in each post sig block) with the ID and PW and when it is convenient and we will do it. if u have speaker and mic on ur computer we can also talk via this link at the same time. i will make time to break away anytime this morning from 8-11 am.

    Hi,
My apologies: thats what I meant when I was saying drivegui wouldn't connect: I'll get an "error timed out" and from yesterday to today, I've been getting "invalid parameters" as a different message (y'know, just to keep it all interesting). To make sure I'm including as much info as possible, on both my laptop and my desktop, I can't select 38400 as my baudrate: it'll just "greyout"/ do that thing where its displaying the information on the computer screen but in a gray tone that won't let you select it, if that makes sense. Since probably a lot of this I'm mangling, I'll very happily take you up on your suggestion and download the program you mentioned. I'll see about the webcam as well, but I've had pretty spotty luck w that in the past. Either way, I'll get to that right now and I'll email you when I'm all ready to go. And, no matter the outcome of my drive saga: thank you very very much. I really appreciate the time you've given to this - hopefully this'll be the last of it I'm stealing from you

I'm just sending the password/id# for teamviewer right now via email: I'll also IM this message to you as well. Since I'm the one imposing on your generosity, just tell me whatever time you've got free to setup this whole online diagnostic session, and I'm there. Though right now I'm getting coffee and a doughnut, so my "there" is a little bit off from my "there" there. Plus, I'm rambling, apparently
