I purchased a spindle motor and VFD. The spindle has no manual so I am not sure how to wire it. It is a 2.2KW 3 phase motor with four terminals numbered 1, 2, 3, 4. I am assuming one of these is a ground but don't know how to identify it. Any suggestions? Thanks. John |

| Well operating a vague area! But the one that is ground can be confirmed by continuity (zero ohms) to motor frame, the other three should read isolated from frame and read exactly the same resistance between any two. Al.

| Thanks Al. What I have is a short among three of the terminals so I assume these are the motor windings. There is an open between the fourth terminal and any of the other three pins. I am assuming this is ground. I will check it against the motor case. I did power the unit up and had no fault lights but the motor would only turn at a very low speed. My VFD display was only showing 6.6 HZ with the rheostat at max. There was also a clicking sound from the motor. |

| Do you have info or pic of the motor name plate? Al.

| I got the motor to behave properly. As I suspected the terminal that was open to the others was the ground. The reason my spindle did not operate properly on initial trial was the VFD settings. I had to adjust them to my spindle characteristics. Works just fine now except rotation appears the wrong way. Will have to look for another setting for it or maybe swap motor wires. John |

| That must be one of those Chinese spindles that are supplied with a ground terminal which is not connected to the frame, end users usually end up putting it on themselves and running a ground conductor to it, it is required by code and to prevent noise issues. Al.

Ah yes the saga of the RF. Need to get some ferrite slugs and EMI filters. < EMI/RFI Filter & Power Entry Modules - SAE Power > is an example Probs I had: Noist to limit switches Noise to E stop Noise in the lan and wifi get your head around sheilding and earthing. they are two diff things. I am not up to speed with US codes. Paul |

| I am bit concerned you have no proper ground terminal inside the motor connection box. Do you have an “E” mark beside a screw inside the connection box? If so it should be the ground terminal. Check the continuity from the screw to the motor body for verification of grounding. |
