    Inertia & reduction question

If a motor has inertia of 0.2 kgcm^2 paired with a reduction gearbox of 1:10 with 0.1 kgcm^2 inertia

How much is the total inertia now ?
    a) 30 kgcm^2
    b) 20.1 kgcm^2

    Thank you

    neither....

    c) 0.3kgcm2

gearbox inertias are given at the motor shaft side, so the motor sees .1.

the motor is .2, so the total is .3

missing is the LOAD inertia: IT goes thru the gearbox and gets reduced by the square of the ratio, or reduced by 100 in your case.

load inertia reflected to the motor is most important also.... consider playing with free Motioneering to see how all inertias interact for different type mechanical systems:
