Question I made a cnc mill with stepper , now starting with servos.

hello guyz,
i recently made a cnc milling machine with stepper motors and cheap china TB6560 driver. it works just fine(with stepper motos, belt drive)..now i m going to make a new milling machine .. with servo motors, ball screw, linear rails.

My PROBLEM is = i m new to servo motors, i m going to use 3 Panasonic 750W servo motor which has encoder at there back. and industrial drivers for those motors. but i dont know anything about how to connect them to parallel port so mach3 can control them. i know every thing about stepper motors but have no idea about servos.

so if anyone of you guyz can just tell me that what is the wiring diagram or what is the simplest way that i can connect and controll the servos by mach3 then i will be very thank full....

here is a link to servo motor and driver= http://industrial.panasonic.com/ww/i...as_e_e/e_1.pdf

And ( i dont have any idea how to program a PLC, so is there any way that those servos can be controlled only with the industrial drivers and mach3, i mean with out PLC?, i show many photos on google about servo cnc setup and most of them had PLCs in it, but i dont want to and i cant use a plc.. so plz show me a way around this problem)..

thankx for reading ...

Buy me a Beer?

The documentation is poor but it seems that the control method is through RS232 which excludes Mach as a controller?

With a little bit of work you should be able to get these to work with mach 3. Please see this document: http://industrial.panasonic.com/ww/i..._manu_03_E.pdf

Look at the diagram on page 31 of the PDF, section, 42, "Command Pulse Input Mode Set Up". The instructions are not exactly clear, but if you set the drive, to position mode (3), you basically have a step and direction interface. The ( PULSE ) would be equivalent to (STEP) and the (SIGN) would be equivalent to (DIRECTION). Make sure that you download all of the documentation for the E series. You did not list the exact drive that you have so some changes might be necessary. When you test this, make sure that you do it on disconnected motor for safety.

Additional information: http://industrial.panasonic.com/ww/i...tlg_acs_e.html

Hope this helps,

i m gona use the MINAS E series driver and motor .. here is the link MINAS E series | AC Servo Motor | Product information | FA, Industrial application | Panasonic Industrial Solutions

and thankx Iron-man.. i was looking for the same information that you just gave me... and i doesn't had the right words to tell my problem before, but now i do ..... i just wanted to know that are servo motor drivers can be easily controlled like stepper driver? i mean just by step and DIR?.. and how to hukeup the servo encode feed back to mach3? via parallel port or serial port? and as far as i know = the servo driver takes care off the encoder feed back and servos position, and the servo driver gives only one pin out for the mach3 , which is for like "HOLD" signal for next line of command to mach3. am i right?

Iron-Man .... yes it seems that it can work like a stepper motor drive...but what is about the feedback from the driver?// where to and how to connect that in mach3 and in PC?

i m asking lots of question bcoz i had seen some industrial servo motor setup..which had lots of isolation boards and lots of relays and PLCs. so i just want to make sure that this Samsung drive and motor can work without PLCs and other things(i mean can this drive work on it own parts, and without hell lots of )?

much of them looked like this = http://www.ccstech.co.uk/images/dnpafter.jpg
so can servo drive work with just mach3 ,parallel or serial port, power supply?

Sorry I overlooked the step/dir input http://industrial.panasonic.com/ww/i...s_e_e/e_14.pdf
It shows that the drive input is opto isolated so if using the P.P. via Mach a simple 2N7000 Fet would work to interface the P.P. port to Drive.
Otherwise if using a break out board, it should have the conditioning on it to drive the Opto.
If using 3 drives it may be easier to implement a ULN2806/ULN2008 all in one rather than descrete 2N7000's.
If going this route you may not need a break out board.
There is no feedback to Mach, the encoder loop is closed back to the drive.
