    Servo Motor ID

Can anyone help identify the manufacturer of this servo motor?
    Any information would be helpful.
    Thanks.

Looks like an older DC brushed Gettys, they were the principle manuf. of DC servo's when CNC first appeared, Fanuc cloned them.
Gettys have been taken over at least a couple of times since.
Also early Mitsubishi were a clone of the same, I have interchanged all three makes at different times.

    Mike,

    Thanks for the reply.
No, it's completely unreadable. I remember looking at it about 8 years ago when it was a little less disintegrated. It may have said Pacific something but, not sure.

    Al,

Thank you for responding also. Iv'e been reading threads for a couple weeks before joining and have been impressed with your knowledge. I hope you will be available for future questions.

aha.... if u recall correctly perhaps it said PACIFIC SCIENTIFIC? they made (make) motors still 90 & 180vdc brush models and they might look like that! if u think Pac sci is right, post dimensions, shaft, bolt circle, pilot, and I will see if they match the specs (we sell these).

I believe Pac Sci was one of the first to take over Gettys IIRC.

BTW, if you need a set of brushes for those motors, Helwig Carbon make replacement sets.
If thinking of re-using the motors, I would take the endcover off and clean the brush gear of carbon, that is if they have been in operation for a few years.

I still haven't had time to get the dimensions so... probably tomorrow.
If I remember correctly, the last time the machine ran, the motors were working properly.
I've been basically trying to make sure I could use these on a rebuild using EMC.

Is it fairly easy to replace the driver unit with this in mind?

Thanks Al for the cleaning tip. I'll be dissembling the entire machine to clean and repaint it.

I'll post some more pictures of the machine so you can see the whole project.

    Thanks,

    John
