Are you looking for drives? If so what command are you using? step/dir etc?

I'm going to rebuild the machine and want to install a new control.
Hopefully these motors will work with the newer technology available today.
I believe the motors were working fine when the control failed.
I was wanting to use something like EMC on a custom built PC to control it and will probably need to buy a new power supply.

You more than likely have the power supply in there for the old drives you can re-use, if using a analogue control, Advanced Motion sell drives that would work.
Those are large motors, so you need some beefy drives.
Do you know the make/state of the existing drives?

    Al,

Here is a picture of the power supply.... It's a little bit dated.
I'm not sure it even works anymore.
If I can use the motors with a new power supply, that should save me a ton of money.

    Thanks,

    John

Hey, I'm a little bit dated, but I still work.

Things like transformers and bridge rectifiers should last forever, electrolytic caps maybe need changing if you want some sense of security.
A new DC supply for those motors will not be cheap!
It is the drives I would be concerned about, that vintage are most likely velocity type that use a tach on the motor?
Later types are run in Torque mode with no tach feedback.

ok a piece at a time....

the picture u have of drive is old westamp A711 model.... want manual on it? email me and I will send it.

maybe u can just reuse them? if not, as al says AMC or servo dynamics makes nice replacements... in fact, we made a replacement for these west amp drives with new servo d drives mounted on angle bracket to slip into that same mount spot & use that nice ps as al said.....

do any of THEM have part nos on them? if so list? they may tell the size replacement drives u need......

these are the generic 90 & 180vdc brush models but seem wrong size. these are the old pacific scientific models.... i dont recall any pac sci dc models other than these that looked like yours...

    Peerless Electric Servo Motors

made motors that look like that for years and still do - maybe worth emailing them a pix to see if it one of theirs?

    Guys,

I haven't been doing anything with CNC for quite a few years, So i'm kind of behind the eight ball with technology changes.
Have stepper motors advanced to the point that they would be a good alternative to the servos I have?
    Thanks,

    John

That would be some steppers to replace those motors, at least without gearing, in earlier CNC machines, DC servo's were quite large due to either direct drive or very little reduction was seen.
IMO, the only reason for steppers over servo's is economics.

I searched pacific scientific. And this thread came up. Iam in desperate need of software to change parameters on an sc903 servo drive or oc930 option card any of you guys know where I should look. I've down probably a good 24 hours of searching for this software. But because of scientific pacific site is shut down I can't find much. These drives are capable of excepting step and dir signal. And outputting analog signal to my resolver motors but with the software I can't enable that feature. Any help is appreciated.
    Thabk k you
