Anyone tried one of these before?

i nabbed one of these from an old photocopier. Only problem is I can't find any info about it
the label says dc servo motor Japan Servo CO. LTD
p.n 49008008 Model no. df80ft10-5 DC24V 1.15A

It has 4 wires, so I am assuming it's not really a servo motor, but rather a bipolar stepper.
Could anyone shed some light on this? I want to design a machine form the parts that I have already scrounged, but I don't know what I have..
Here's a pic:sorry about the ablurry pic. The shaft seems to have a helical gear ground right into it. It might be hard to couple, unless maybe I grind a flat onto it for a setscrew collar.

A 4 wire could be a servo also, with 2 wires being the speed sensor.

To test, just short all wires together and turn the shaft by hand. If it's a stepper, it would move in a jerky detent motion, like it was rubbing on cogs. If it's a servo, it would turn freely.

the shaft spins freely as before.
so I guess it IS a servo..
what kind of drive would i need for it? i have the pcb from the copier that the servo was connected to, but there were a few different things hooked up to it.
the main ics that i can read on the board include one caled konica 5400-9040 1 row of 14 pins, si 6903 (1 row 13 pins), another ic with12 pins and a large aluminum heatsink. tracing the circuit paths indicates that 2 of the connector wires lead to pins 3 and 4 of the konica IC and th eother to to the heatsinked mystery IC at pins 4 and 9. Any konica techs out there that can help me use this existing driver for my cnc project??

just because it doesnt cog doesnt mean its not a stepper. Don't count on it being a servo, what does the label say?
