Z axis install Bridgeport series 1 | | Hi,
I hope you guys can help as I am totally lost. I have a Bridgeport Series 1 mill with a Anilam 3200mk controller. The X and Y axis use Anilam/SEM Servos (MTS30M4-59), which have Renco RHS15D-1000-1/4 encoders. The amplifiers used for these servos are Anilam/Glentek SMA7215-2. I am trying to install a Elrod Z axis on this machine. I figured I couldn't go wrong to purchase the exact same servo and amp as used on the X & Y axis. So I purchased a SEM MT30M4-59 servo which has tach but no encoder. Also, as you may notice the part number is off by a "S" which must mean the servo is metric rather than SAE, as the output shaft is 16mm and the encoder shaft is 5mm. I emailed SEM prior to purchase and they said the "S" meant shorter housing??? So without making this too long, I need suggestions on how to get things up and running. I'm pretty much a layman when it comes to this, so keep that in mind.
Should I purchase a different Servo Motor for the Elrod Z axis quill drive kit? The MT30 says it's a C-face but the C-face adapter that D. Elrod sent with the kit will not fit. The timing drive pulley will not fit as it is a 5/8" and not a 16mm, as on the servo motor.
Regarding the Servo Amplifier; Should I buy one just like the one used on the X and Y axis?...Or would others work? If I use the Servo motor that I purchased then I'll have to get a Renco Encoder to match the 5mm shaft. And then I will need to get the cables.
I can make the Sevo that I purchased fit but was curious to know what you guys think. I need to save money any way I can, so keep that in mind. But I also desperately need to get the drive operating and out of my hair.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
