I have several reliance electric brushless servo motors model N-3412-2-HOOAA, I have 2 Reliance Electric IQ2000 pdm20, 3 DDM009 bru series advantage line digital servo drives and one DDM009X digital servo indexing drive. I am trying to build a cnc plasma cutter, I have the table built with the x axis rails and linear bearings, I have two gl20s20+600l-c THK complete drive assemblies with n series servo motors mounted to them and now I have a lot of questions to get the rest of it together. I am new here and this is my first post so any info would be greatly appreciated. Which drive units should I use with the servo motors and how should I set them up. Also I have the ultramaster software but what cnc software can I use to run this setup. I thought about cutting down one of the THK linear drive assemblies to make the z axis because they are too long, Is this a good idea? If there is anyone in the central Fla. area that can help me with this, I have several GE Fanuc plcs, power supplies, pnuematics and hydraulics, and all kinds of electronics and linear motion stuff to trade for some help with this. Thanks. |

| I am using the same family of drives as the ddm-009 on my mill. You can set them up as step/direction, so you can use Mach3, EMC, and TurboCNC. Have you downloaded the manuals? The setup is fairly straightforward. I haven't decided how to handle the emergency stop function. I did end up buying breakout terminal boards for the control input to the drives because the connectors were too darn small for me to solder on. Probably the first thing to do is spin the motors with the drives. If you don't have motor cables, this is a big first step. If you do have cables, all you have to do is hook up the 24v, 24v ground (common) and then the enable line. I've been using 12v for the 24v supply and it works fine. As far as the mechanical stuff goes, you might want to post that in a different thread somewhere else in the forum. That way this thread doesn't get too confusing. Eric |

I have the manuals for the ddm009, servo motors, and ultramaster software and that is where it gets tricky, wher can I get a multi drop four wire rs485 cable to hook them all together. what is a step/direction generator that hooks up to the j1-14,15,16,17 pins. Do I need to use all three programsMach3, EMC, and TurboCNC. Thanks for your help, do you need any parts for your setup, I have a couple of nice e-stop buttons and mounts and other stuff to hook it all together if you need anything let me know I will give you what you need but you will have to pay for shipping. any more info is greatly appreciated. Also any pics. of your setup would be great. Thanks again, Brian. |

| What I've been doing is just using RS-232 and setting up the drives one at a time. You need to wire your own cable, because there will be a conflict if too many wires are connected -- you can only have RX, TX, and ground wires hooked up. Found that out the hard way. I don't really forsee the situation where I'll want to set up more than one drive at the same time. Setting up RS-485 would also require a RS-232 to RS-485 converter, or a USB-RS-485 converter. These are fairly expensive for what they are. I have some converters, but it seems like too much work. You only need one of the programs. If you are most comfortable with Windows, go with Mach3. You can get your machine running for free, but to do anything meaningful it costs $159. If you have a spare computer for this and are willing to use linux, EMC is the best choice and costs nothing. TurboCNC uses DOS, and costs money, but other than that I haven't been tracking it. Any of these three will generate step and direction pulses using your parallel port. You should get a parallel port breakout board to use the pulses. The only potential problem is that almost all breakout boards are single-ended, and these drives want differential, although they show how to use single-ended in the manual. The enable pins need to be run through a relay, because they want 24v. I don't know if I'll have time to do it this weekend, but I'll see if I can't update my pics to show what I'm doing. |

My name is Nelson Collar. I was tring to sell my motors and power converters but had no replys. Out of need to do something with. The Post #248460 was the answer to what I have been searching for. If daddyzhome Laurindoneto or unterhaus are still around. Please get back with me. Looking forward to talking with you. |
