Troubleshooting, motor, encoder or card?

I have a Galil card running two servo motors with AMC drives.
Over the weekend I think something got zapped, and one axis shows the counts running away. I am trying to figure out if it is the encoder or the card, (or ?) does anyone have any troubleshooting tips?

Thanks!

Usually very simple to test the encoder, disconnect power to the motor and turn the motor shaft slowly and key in a TP you should see the encoder counts/turn after every TP key in.
If you suspect the encoder, swap it with another axis, or to check the card, try another axis encoder into the input, you do not need motor power for these tests
Usually if the differential IC blows on the Galil, there is no count.

Thanks Al, the counts keep climbing on the y axis, but not the x, and the motor is not turning...

What happens if you disconnect the encoder from the card?
So if you keep doing a TP in DMC_Terminal repeatedly the counts climbs?

We disconnected the encoder completely and the counts still climb.... we contacted Galil and they said the card probably is bad. So we are sending it back.

I would like to find another as a backup for the future if anyone has a pci 18x2 laying around they would like to sell....
Thanks Al
