Westamp AC Servo Driver, What motor?

    Colleagues
Just recently I purchased an AC servo drive in the intention that I would match a motor to it and use it as the spindle drive motor on my latest project being a lathe conversion. I realise like most things I jump the gun without thinking but the driver was new and at the correct price so how could I pass it up.
From what I have learnt so far I can interface a Pixie card to the driver so it excepts step and direction from Mach, but that's about as much as I have been able to research. My questions are as follows.
What motor can I use with this drive? Or what should I be looking for in a motor? As far as motor size goes I am looking at the 1.5kw range to drive a spindle on a 11x30 lathe.
Is there a better interface than the pixie card?
Or am I simply just peeing in the wind! and trying to use something that is to outdated?
If you go to the link it will show the manual for the driver,
    http://www.ormec.com/LinkClick.aspx?...id=168&mid=757
    My model is SL30.
I am very new to servo motor's and basically on a crash course, any help would be appreciated.

    Cheers
    Katoh

I can not seem to find any reference to a motor in the manual, and I believe westamp no longer exists, I have sent a message to ormec, but again if have anything to do with westamp Im not sure.
I am new to the servo motor game, all my machines run on twin steppers, so I am not quite certain of which motor will match to which drive.
while researching I came across the pixie boards that will take step/dir signals and transfer them into analogue, not unless there is a better interface out there.

    ok i.ll bite............

yes westamp is long gone. u might get help at a company that sprang from them in same town - try contacting servo dynamics. com. tell Lillian I suggest u call them if you want....

lookking at manual it looks like sl10, sl20,sl30 modes; sound like 10,20,30 amp sizes but i could not find in manual in quick perusal. u look. seemed like 2,5,10 amp ratings per a fuse chart I saw.

u can run any PERMANENT MAGNET 3ph brushless servo or spindle motor that has encoder and hall (aka commutation) feedback. dont meet these specs and u cannot use it. period.

    enjoy

    Hi Mike
Thanks for the reply, as stated I am new to servo motors. I will contact sevo dynamics. I have heard back from Ormec, basically told me they have no idea and not worth their time to find out. Ok i can understand that.

Now Im getting confused as i have been told if motor does not match drive it wont work, and it depends on the if it is 4bit 17bit ect ect. Also the module has to be programmed to accept the motor? I thought most of these things were plug and play if wired properly. What there basically trying to tell me that the motor is matched to the drive and that's that.
So As long as it has an encoder and halls communication I can use any motor?
