Dear All,
I'm new to linear motors and currently I'm working on building a high precision nano-metric resolution machine. I face problem due to high noise level from driver, environment and also due to mechanical assembly. I could eliminate the latter two, but still having problem with the driver. For higher resolution performance of linear motor which drive is better PWM type or Linear drive. Suggest me based on performance and longer life of the drive as we are gonna use for machine tool. The motor has the following specifications:
Continuous current - 2.5A
Peak current - 6A
Inductance 2.1mH
Continuous power - 420W
let me know if you need any more detail. All your suggestions are welcome.
thanks in advance.
I work with linear motors/pwm drives and we position down to .1um all day long. worked on a machine to make worlds most accurate checker for NIST and IIRC got down to like .05ish um. used linear drives yes similar size motors (IL12 type kollmorgen or 1"x3"wide x 6" long coil). I would not take a bet that you can get to .1 nanometer positioning on earth today with that big a slide mechanism.
