fanuc servo and geckos

i have some fanuc servo motors and they look like they are non permanent magnet motors. is there and good means of using these with gecko's or are they boat anchors?

they have a black top and 4 poles.
they also had resolvers but i have encoders now.
thanks

Buy me a Beer?

I have never come across wound field Fanuc motors? AFAIK the very first DC servo's used by Fanuc were P.M. Gettys?

bet if u list the 6ab or whatever full motor part number here someone would recognize it.

If u short all 3 motor leads together and rotate the motor by hand, if pm it will resist (make torque); if induction motor (spindle) it will not.

Irregardless of type there are drives that will run them with the resolver feedback. We sell Home | Kollmorgen | International drives and most of them will work with resolver feedback. pm me if you get motor data and want me to pick a model that will work so you can see what it would take.

these should stick a piece of steel to the case if they are permanend magnet right?
they have 2x leads only and an rpm 2x leads too.
the 2 big ones on the x,z have no tag.
the z does. i will see if i can get anthing usefull off it.
can the magnets die?
thanks

so it makes power....
my small/z axis motor says A06B-0613-B031
the other 2 are identical but about 1.5" longer in the body.
my dad is playing with it before we hook it all up and he says it does not home very tight? he says it can move the shaft about 1/8" in each direction before resistance....

Black Cap motors were the first Fanuc DC motors and were usually Gettys, the Fanuc knock offs were yellow cap.
You can try them with a 12v automotive battery to see if they spin, check the brushes if they have been in service for a while.
The B031 usually indicates a 2000p absolute encoder which was often used on robots.

the brush's looked good.
it spins fine but just has crappy performance i guess. stop, start and holding.
i dont have all the stuff to try one here.
gettys??

we are going with the CUI AMT102 encoders on these motors.

What are you testing it with that shows poor performance?
'Holding' is a feature of the control and feedback element?
Gettys were a large US manufacturer of DC motors that Fanuc adopted before they labeled their own.

i will have to ask him to be sure.
it has to be the total sytem to work correctly right?
motor and encoder to 320x
power supply to 320x
320x to bob
bob to mach 3
maybe he has the mach 3 settings all bad?

at this point if you think it should work it is probable us doing it wrong or out of tune. lol
he said he was going to call gecko on monday and see if he missed something.....

thanks
