Do I want to look for the holy grail of cables (10ga.shielded) or is 12ga. shielded good enough? Do I even need shielded cable for a PWM servo drive-to-servo cable? The servo is a Pitman 24v. 14207 that can take up to 40A. at stall, but the servo drive tops out at 30A. 12ga. speaker wire is flexible due to it's multi strand nature, but shielded examples are pricey. I can find 10ga. speaker wire, but nothing shielded. Will 12ga. unshielded work, or do I need shielded, or even 10ga. due to the momentary 30A possibilities? Building an insane hobby mill isn't cheap. |

| u dont pick cable wire gauge based on PEAK; u pick it based on continuous (sometimes called stall) current rating of lower of motor or drive rating. If ur drive is 30a peak it is probably 15as continuous so I will guess even 14 ga would be fine. Also can depend on length if real long make it bigger; but ur mill is probably only like 10 ft most so ok at rated size. |

| Pittman 14 Series are not very big. I doubt you will ever see 40A and if you do that is about the point where the motors would permanently ruin the magnets. Twisted pair - the shortest length you can get away with. Remember the constant current value as this is as high as you would want to run on a 100% duty cycle. |
