Building a little project for school but am having trouble finding a resolved based servo motor and drive which are cost effective (cheap). I guess the major issue is finding 2 that are compatible. I need a 1-2 hp resolved based motor and a 3 phase drive which would let me control the motors speed from a potentiometer type of device and a switch for direction control. Please advise while I actively search for my answers elsewhere. I'd really appreciate it. |

| A couple of questions need answers first, do you really need resolver feedback just for speed control? why not simple tach? How precise do you need it? for 1-2hp you could even go with a VFD and induction motor? There are many options, but it depends on what exactly you expect the end result to be in the way of precise control and/or position? Al.

edit: This just came to my mind, I also don't want the drive to continuously set the motor to "zero" position setting and then run. I need it to be able to just go when the speed controller is turned and the switch directions when the direction switch is flipped. To explain better I am going to put a pulley on the drive motor and then spin another motor off it which will be "dead". Last edited by Harryp; 08-28-2010 at 04:54 PM. |

| You could use a DC motor with a Tach for a bit more precise control, and if you do not mind switching between fwd and reverse with a switch, then one of the KB or Baldor simple 120/240ac mains fed controllers would suffice. These accept tach input as well as non-feedback. There are usually quite a few DC ex servo motors on ebay that should do the trick, also the DC controllers can be had also. It sounds like you just want to back feed another motor. Al.

| Here is a couple of ebay items 150485406510 - 140444921377. The second does not have a reversing switch but it can be added after market, brand new $35.00!. If you were not thinking DC, then what? Also, do you need 1 -2 hp? Al.
