I have a Hurco that sometimes the x axis does a run away. The jog button makes it change direction, but the speed is what ever it wants. I think it has a bad connection in the harness going to the control box with the drives in it. The guy that had this mill before me had a lot of problems with the connections. When it does this runaway thing, the crt doesn't show any movement on the X axis. Is this the Encoder or encoder wires causing this? I am just starting to figure out how the servos & drives work. Thanks, Jack |

| The majority of systems do not show the position as per the encoder, the display is the anticipated position of the control. It still could be encoder though or more likely a tach, if these are DC brushed servo's. Bad connections etc are also a cause of these problems, sometimes it is a good idea to replace the cables if it is an older machine. Al.

| Yes, it is DC brushed servos. Electro-craft, I believe. They have a tach connection, too. I'll look at the pin connectors. They are the style of military, but made of cheap plastic. At first everything was pointing to a servo board. Al, thanks for all of your good information. Jack |
