I can offer a couple of options:
This drive will run the existing motor MCG DMC6D BRUSH TYPE PWM SERVO AMPLIFIER DMC 6D | eBay
It would require a home built handheld controller to operate it, but not a very good option IMHO.
I would replace the motor with a stepper motor. Simple to wire up and will work.
