With the motor mechanically disconnected from the lead screw, connect it one way and try it. If the motor turns the wrong way, reverse the connection. There is really no easy way to tell which way is should be wired without testing.

I am currently wiring my SEM30 DC servo motors up to my DG4S-08020 servo drives from CNCdrive.com.
On the drive outputs there is an ARM1 and ARM2 to the motors. I have the two armature wires from the servos but I'm unsure as to which is arm1 and which is arm2. Is there an easy way to figure this out? Two wire colours coming from the motors are white and orange.
If the armatures are wired in reverse, then surely the system will trip out because the motors will be in reverse from the encoders?
Or does it not matter which way these go?

There are a few ways to do this, and also depends on the drive and the controller how easy it is.
The sure way is to hook everything up, doesn't matter initially on the motor polarity, if you power up and the motor takes off, it is probabally because the motor leads are backwards, reverse them and try again.
If it is OK but the direction is incorrect, then swap the motor leads back together with swapping the encoder A&B leads.

How do I know which way is the wrong way?
What damage will be done if the motor drives the wrong way to the encoders? Or will it just trip the drives?
The motor will just run away if the encoder and motor direction do not agree. No damage will be done to anything IF you DO NOT have the motor mechanically connected to the machine. In other words, remove the drive coupling while testing and getting the motor under control.
The wrong way is the direction that is opposite of the way you would like it to run, it's your choice as to what direction is correct.
