There are some things below the screen that are intended to be hidden. 😊

    Hey all,

I just got myself an ESS, and have updated my MACH3 profile to reflect it.
I've got everything working, EXCEPT spindle control, and the VERIFY button(?!)
    -----
I know the spindle controls work, as no hardware changes where made, and I can toggle the setting high/low to turn the spindle on/off.
But the 2010 spindle button does nothing?
    - Homing all works, tool setting works...

When I hit the VERIFY button, it comes up and says verifying, but the machine does nothing.
    - then a minute or so later, is say verify complete.

    Help?!
LOL, I've been through both the old/new profiles, but I can't seem to track it down...
I've got to be missing something... (Yes, I copied all the macro files and enabled them)

Do you have an output configured, and assigned to the M3 relay, and spindle relays enabled?

Okay, I missed that one, but something still isn't right.

I can now click the spindle button in the screenset, and it highlights on/off, but he spindle wont turn on/off.

The only way the spindle will turn on/off, is when I change the output signal to active low...
(meaning the pins are configured correctly)

uhg, okay, spindle is now working (needed to shutdown and restart MACH3)

    But the VERIFY isn't working?

No idea, but I really kinda need it, I was losing steps, and was thinking it was the PP add in card, as the frequency was bouncing around.
"SEEMS" good now with the ESS, but I really do need to verify if I'm loosing steps... I will be doing some test cuts...
I guess I'll pull out the ol' trusty dial indicator!

I seem to be getting consistent speeds of 240ipm where as before, I was barely getting 160... BIG difference!

I have a production run I'm working on, and losing steps is being a costly frustration...

Thanks again Ger! your a great help!

Nobody's ever brought up any issues with the Verify in 7 years. The button just calls the Mach3 Verify function.
Quick way to check is use View > Load Screens, and load the 1024.set file, and run Verify from there.
If it's not working in the 2010 screenset, then it shouldn't work in the default screen either. Which would point to it not working with the ESS.

I just found this note on the Warp9 page, from 2011:

    - The Verify function was implemented, though it does not operate the same as the Parallel Port driver. To operate the same will require a change in Mach. Verify for slaved axes needs to be modified since it does not report both axes (TBD).

I couldn't find anything else about it.

LOL leave it to me to find the glitches

So I wonder how I can get it working... Don't have time for any researching tonight...
Thanks for finding that Gerry. If I come up with something, I will let you know.

I can't believe the verify function is in this state?
    Nobody ever use it?

    Found this but still looking...
Warp9 Tech. Design - Home of the SmoothStepper

    - The Homing routine has changed significantly. The old routine reset the machine coordinates as it progressed through the state machine. It shouldn't do that if the homing routine is also to be used for the Verify command. Verify will perform a home operation, but in the end it will not change the machine coordinates. As long as your homing is repeatable, the Verify routine will let you know if you have lost any steps. If you have no backlash and you're not losing electrical pulses, when the machine comes back to machine zero, it should read zero. I added a feature to limit the amount of distance the machine will travel when searching for a home switch. This feature was mostly for when a slaved axis is de-slaved from its master. You can specify a short distance so that the gantry does not get twisted up. Unfortunately, I don't think the homing routine is working perfectly well yet. The problem is in syncing with Mach. As soon as the axes are de-slaved, there is a tiny adjustment that is made and it should not move at all. I need to dig into this to figure out why this is happening. I have not tested the Verify function, though the code is in the homing routine now. It should work, but it has not been tested. I need to get a new release out, so this is something I can fix for next time, if it needs fixing.

That's why I've never been a fan of motion controllers with Mach3. None of them have identical functionality to the parallel port.

    True.
The ESS for instance runs almost 10x faster than an LPT and has 3 ports rather than one. That is not 'identical'.

The one thing the ESS does not do (yet) is allow for full servo control of spindle speed. I am not sure there are any deficiencies, but I may be wrong.

    Cheers

I just bought the 2010 screen set and did the installation. The installation failed.

I get the attached display. Almost nothing except some boxes and the current settings of the DROs in Mach3. The usual "1024.set" screen works fine, of course. I've had this installation going for a few months.

This is a Windows7 machine out in the garage workshop, not the one I'm typing on. It has a 1280x1024 screen resolution. My first guess is the problem is because I have an unusual installation. I have three configurations of Mach3, one for each of my three CNC machines. I'm only trying to install this on one machine; my big mill. I don't know how much detail to get into this page, or what's wanted.

I have three Mach3 directories, because it seemed to be what was needed, however the default C:\Mach3 directory appears to have the profiles in it, too. I copied all of the files into the macros directory of both the one for the machine I'm using and the default C:\Mach3 I've copied all of the 2010.set files into both directories, and that didn't work. I've tried the various ways of starting the program: starting the file from the Mach3 loader; starting from the desktop icon that I set up for the big mill, and by double-clicking Mach3 in the directory for the big mill.

Whichever Mach3 folder you installed it to will have a \Mach3\bitmaps\2010\ folder.
Copy that 2010 folder into all of your installation folders, under \Mach3\bitmaps\.

Also, go into General Config, and uncheck "Auto Screen Enlarge", and "Boxed DRO's and Graphics", and restart. You'll want to drag the lower right corner of the Mach3 window to fit the screen, as it won't look very good maximized.

Thanks! That got it working right.

I did the same with the brains and that worked as well. It's as if my system is telling me it runs some things from different directories than I think. I have this big mill, my G0704, a small Sherline mill and a small lathe. They all have different motor tuning and other details and they all work fine.

A better way to do it would be to have one installation of Mach3, and multiple profiles, but if it's working like you have it, I probably wouldn't change it.

I'm using the 2010 Screenset auto zero functionality and I'm trying to adjust my post processor file to work with it. My gcode post processor file has a G43Hx (x being the tool number) after the M6 which I have commented out. Is it needed? Harm to leave it in?

Does this snippet of code before and after the M6 look correct for the auto zero to work??
