Self-inflicted solvent abuse.

Anybody with an outboard motor knows that the only way to clear an air lock in the fuel line requires the highly skilled technician to take in a certain amount of gasoline orally. Sucking works, blowing rarely does. The taste can be flushed away by a couple of cans of good beer.

Best wishes,

Martin

Brian, I've used Clairsol 310 for diamond turning metal optics. Last I heard you had to buy in large quantities though.

I don't machine much metals now but still get optical finishes using just compressed air and good chip extraction (air under the tool and extraction above the tool).

Cleaning is a *****- Spray the optic while it's on the machine and spun up.

If you utterly utterly have to, drag wipe it with one edge of a wetted whatman's tissue whilst praying to the god of shiny surfaces not to scratch it.

Alternatively, spray coat the surface with Opticlean and peel it off to remove contamination at the molecular level.

Protect the surface using Opticlean or Coverlac and ship with dire warnings inside and outside the box about handling. Something along the lines of:

Caution! Delicate Optical Components
Handle with care.
These took me ages to make. If you handle them you WILL ruin them and bad things will happen to you. Your hair will fall out, black flies will land in your chardonay and cats will leave muddy paw prints on your car hood. You have been warned.

Sorry Martin, but I have to disagree here.

You're close, but I know of no GOOD beer that comes in cans. None. Period.

He's from the UK; they have cans of beer over there that are 9% alcohol content, large cans and after two of those your judgement is a bit biased.

Point taken! Biased judgement, no. "Enhanced", yes.

3 cans of special brew please I have a long run of parts......only an "I" to add and you have ruin

Never drank coolant but I've used it to rinse my eyes a few times....eyes and throat are connected so indirectly I've imbibed it Can't comment on the bouquet but the visual impairment from the alkaline coolant is quite....eye opening

Dear PixMan, Geof and Kipper,

These are all excellent points, and I read them two minutes ago. The 5.2% stuff remains on my screen, after projectile laughter.

Thank you.

Best wishes,

Martin

Ahhh Tennent's Special Brew... manys the hangover I've had with that evil stuff.

Mix it with White Lightning Cider and you have a rather interesting refreshment.

If you're really brave, then stick a Pernod in it with a bit of blackcurrant and you have what's known as a "diesel" (cos it looks like diesel and has what I would immagine would be roughly the same effect).

Dear ImanCarrot,

An interesting and sophisticated cocktail recipe , but "refreshment" it will not be.
But hey! it is entirely bio-diesel, and you are probably saving the Planet.

Best wishes,

Martin
