Ready to start

Hi everyone

Finally ready to start work on my machine decided with my limited funds and tools I will build the model d moving gantry I like the idea of the sliders being supported, and stronger then unsupported, plus it's an all wood machine to suit my limited tools which most are woodwork type.


I have been playing around with mach3 and motors/driver for a couple of weeks working very good but there's only so much you can do with motors loose on the work bench,

need some help,,,,,

rockcliff recomended 3/8-5 or 1/2-5 acme screw for good speed around 100 inches per min, my buget cannot afford it at the moment, has anyone got any places to get cheap acme screws? ,

also if I had to use threaded rod? will the speed be too slow to cut wood ?

Hi: Iam on the final leg of finishing a gantry type cnc router, using

rockcliff motors and board. Using 1/2X10 acme screws which can be purchase

for app 20to25 dollars for 6ft length. This may vary from place

to place in Canada. I can get around 55 ipm on travel,you will not be cutting

a large grouve and moving lots of wood at that speed. I am using 3 1/4 HP

router and the gantry is heavy so has large weight to move. Good luck

Hi buildman,
I'm using 1/2 10 acme w/dimpster o lash nuts . no problems with movements (55 ipm) and plenty of ridgidity. I have the D-I flying gantry with 24 x 36 cutting area (36x48 footprint) I opted for the supported rails on the bed, and eventually will replace the other guides with them too. I've done alot of cutting in the past year with it (burned out 2 routers) and its holding up very well. I got the rails from vbx- nice stuff. Check precision? leadscrews for the acme rods (I'll look for my receipt)

I was able to find 10 thread acme at a local shop and I just did an order for dumptster nuts and couplings, should have most of the parts cut out this long weekend.
