Default Its not Steel..but this one works..

Some of you might remember me as the guy building the steel 750mmx750mm table. Unfortunately I ran into a problem when I mounted the Yaxis because the blocks were inaccurate due to my bench drill and tools I used, thus, the bearings tore into the stainless rails.
I decided to use the blocks, rails and bearings to build a smaller machine out of MDF (400x400 table) and hence it is now finished bar some fine tuning, Ive posted some pics and will post a movie when the tweaks are completed. I will use this machine to complete the steel machine as it is surprisingly accurate.

I have some queries and would apreciate any advice on the following..

I have the Rockcliff 4axis board and 270oz.in steppers and was wondering what is the maximum voltage I can put through the motor? the motor is 2.8A phase, would it be safe to put 2.5A through each motor? I have it set at 2.2V equivilent to 1.3A at present but could use the extra power..

I have ordered 6 limit switches and estop, I made switches for the MDF machine from my sons Lego, 2 rivets and a spring which are sometimes unreliable (but still work..) when the new switches arrive I will rewire and box the PCBs with a fan. My second question is as follows:
I was wondering which wire to use for the motors? we measure here in awg (no idea what it means my electronics is very basic) I would apreciate anybodies advice, meantime when the rewiring and boxing is finished Ill post a movie in action,

    Ian.

    Hi Ian
your machine is looking good, for the rockcliff V10 controller, and the motors you have I recommend a voltage setting of 2.5vdc for Current and 1.2vdc for PFD

Thanks for that Rockcliff, I have another small question..For my board what are the step pulse direction settings for mach3? appreciate that,

    Yes,
The Manual and Mach3.xml setup file are located in the manual
    see: http://www.rockcliffmachine.com/Rock...rDriverV10.zip
    hope that helps

    Default PFD Tuning

Hi if your controller is a V10 model it will have a setting for PFD (Percent Fast Decay)
it's not a critical adjustment, but it can help to fine tune, for mid band resonance (vibration, motor chatter) see

or look over the V10 manual http://www.rockcliffmachine.com/Rock...rDriverV10.zip

Thanks again, the board I have doesnt have PFD, it must be an earlier or later version, Ill set the voltage to 2.5VDC. at present there really isnt a problem with the setup but I cant get much more than 750mm travel per minute using M10 screws which is enough to make the blocks for my steel machine, I have ball screws for that machine which should improve the speed when completed..
