Is it possible to get a gcode into Rhino

I have a gcode made from a photograph. I want to engrave the photo code onto a curved surface that I made in Rhino. Is there any way to import the gcode into Rhino so I can map it onto the curved surface?

Or is there another way to accomplish this?

Basicly I want to convert a gcode to a pointcloud or 3D model.

I would think that if you could take out everything except X, Y and Z values seperated by a comma, it could work. I don't think there's a way to get arcs or any G-code specific commands.

But I think it would have a value for all three axis.

0.00(X), 0.00(Y), 0.00(Z)

With a little effort, it could work. And maybe with a lot of effort, you could get everything (arcs) to import.

Yep. There's no arcs in the code. Just std X,Y,Z moves. Maybe I'll try importing it into a spreadsheet. I don't fancy deleting all the un-needed charaters in notepad.

The photo code is 250,000 lines. It's mostly X,Z moves, as it's done raster fashion. Rhino will need X,Y,Z co-ords for each point in the cloud? That's a lot of Y values need adding.

Gcode is attached if anyone fancies a bash at it.

Whoa. Thats very cool. Any chance of letting the group know how it was done.
I'll have a play around with it later. See if I can wrap it onto a surface.

There is a program in the AutoCAD forum called GcodeIn. It converts Gcode to lines and arcs in AutoCAD. Thank Bill for writing it. It took a few minutes for it to draw the lines. Then a few more minutes to save the .dxf. (60+ MB) And another minute or 2 to .zip it. I need a faster computer, I guess.

Check if you have a function to project a geomerty file or an .nc or .nci file onto a surface, as Mastercam has.

oldjohn is correct. Build the surface you want to engrave the image on. Then use the 'project' command. It would probably be best to group all the curves together, that way you don't have too hard of a time selecting them all.

Actually, after thinking about it for a minute, project will not work. All that will do is give you straight, horizontal lines along your surface. You'll have to get creative on this one.

You need AutoCAD to use it. Gcodein - lisp program to read cnc files into autocad
