    Shipmodelling help wanted

    Hello all

I am interested in boat design and builing. I recently decided that the next model ship that I'm going to build will be built in Rhino first. I am a machinical engineer and very much used to different CAD system (solid works and AutoCAD mainly). I have learned that Rhino would be a very usefull tool for the creation of a ship hull in 3d in CAD.

Maybe in the near future I can use these models to mill the molds for the hull.

I have a scanned version of the original drawings but since these are more that 50 years old they are never drawn in CAD. I have vectorized the drawings using Wintopo Freeware. An snapshot of the frames for the hull is attached as is a photo of the real ship.

How can I create a fair hull of these drawings (as accurate as possible) in Rhino.

The Rhino 3 help files have a tutorial that will show you this process. I have done this several times, if can be frustrating and time consuming if you want to be accurate. Rhino is a very good tool for hull surfaces, but a little clumsy. Also for boats and Rhino you should look at the software section of this site. http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/

    Hello,
Rhino sells what I consider a great tutorial specifically for Marine applications. I bought that before I even bought the Rino software. I got it off their web site, you may want to give it a try.
