Point Clouds

I got about 2700 points in a 3D cloud, now what can I use to get my surface. Anything in Rhino I can use to get from points to surfaces for cnc milling? I tried patch, but it seems to find points that arn't there.

There are some resources on that page that may help. I'm sorry I couldn't have a more direct answer, but this is something that doesn't come up for us.

Point Cloud Section command, from the curve menu. The help file can explain it better than me. After you have defining curves you use them to make a surface. I have never done this with that many points but it did work for me with just over 100 points. Rhino has so many ways of doing things there may be an easier way.

Point Cloud Section command works good for a structured grid, but I have several random points.

Then I think patch is the only way to go. You will likely have to do some editing. Patch should give you a surface that covers all the points, but like you said there will be some over run to edit.

Try "DRAPE" to place a surface over your point cloud.
