text/dingbat to curved surface?

Hello,
I have just purchased a copy of Rhino, but till it comes I am using the evaluation version.
How do I place text/dingbats on a curved surface like a ring shank?
I have really tried to figure this out with out coming to the forum.

Create your text as curves and then project the curves onto the surface. The Rhino newsgroups from the Rhino3d site are where you want to go for support, that other site you listed isn't.
