Increasing mesh density for smoothing in Rhino?
I have a model that is too faceted. I can use the smoothing function, but it is already about as smooth as it can be with the number of facets it has.
I'd like to select the mesh and just have a vertice added in the middle of each edge to increase the mesh density. Is there any way to do this?
My other option would be to convert it to a NURBS surface, but it seems I can't smooth a NURBS surface.
Any ideas? I've searched the help data and googled with no luck.
Thanks!

Hi, there are no mesh smoothing tools in Rhino as one might expect to find in a mesh or sub-d modeler. If you're feeling adventurous, what you might try currently is downloading and installing the t-splines plug-in (beta), converting your mesh into a t-splines object (composed of smooth patches), then a NURBS object, then using the Mesh command in Rhino to re-create the mesh as fine as you need.

You can "smooth" NURBS surfaces, but not in the same fashion as meshes. Remember NURBS are already inherently "smooth" internally, they are not composed of discrete facets as meshes are. If you Mesh-to-NURB in Rhino, you will not get a single surface, but rather one single surface for each mesh facet, which is normally not desirable.
Another way would be to use a free mesh modeler (there are many out there) to do your smoothing. --ch

Apparently, T-splines only works with quad based meshes, and mine is triangle based.
Any suggestions on an easy to use free mesh modeler?
Thanks!

OK, sorry about that, I wasn't sure if it worked with triangles. You can partially convert a triangular mesh into quads in Rhino 4 with QuadrangulateMesh, but it doesn't work everywhere.
For a free mesh software, you might try Blender www.blender.org --ch
