polysrfaces won't join.
Hi.
I am very new.
I have worked up my first attempt at a model of a guitar neck which appears passable.
However it is in two polysurfaces that apparently join or at leat intersect because selecting the curve gives me the option of curve or either polysurface.
when i try to join them I get - Can't join that surface -
where's the best place to start looking - and wtf do i look for?
Thanks,
Rob.

Try the Boolean command instead of Join.
If that doesnt work, then usually there is something wrong with the drawing.

Re: polysrfaces won't join.
A quick and dirty way of joining the surfaces is as follows:
1. Chop 10mm off at the joint. 5mm each side parralel to the joint line. Your parts are now effectively 10mm apart.
2. Extract the edge curve on each side. (Curve->Curve from object->duplicate edge)
3. Hide the neck and the head to make it easier.
4. You are left with 2 parallel curves (that represent the lower sections of the neck) 10mm apart.
5. Join the ends of the curves with straight lines.
6. Do a 2 rail surface sweep and use the neck curves as the rails and the straight lines as the start/end cross section curves.
7. You now have a surface that connects the other surfaces together perfectly.
8. Unhide the parts and join the surfaces together.
Many problem can be solved using 2 rail sweeps because the surface edges can be created by extracting the actual edges of the surfaces to be joined.
Here is a better way of creating the neck and fret board is as follows:
1. Chop the neck off as close to the body as possible.
2. Chop the neck off as close to the head as possible.
3. Extract the edge curves.
4. hide everything except the 2 curves.
5. Draw lines as before connecting the tips of the curves.
6. Draw lines connecting the ends of each curve to close them and form the fret board (join them to form closed curves.
7. Now do a 2 rail sweep but this time use the straight parallel lines that represent the edges of the fretboard as the rails ans the other 2 curves as the start and end cross section curves.
8. You now have a surface extrusion that runs the entire length of the neck.
