Never work with ProMfg, but like Most CAD/CAM system I see, the most important is what construction view you are in..... with mill/turn I usually work with side.
Hello all,
been using ProMfg with great satisfaction for quite a few years on milling machines.
Now its my first attempt to make a program for a lathe with driven tools and C-axis. I have a 28mm diam part (plain cylinder) and I have to engrave a text on its outer radiused surface.
I don't know how to set-up the machine:
-if I choose simple lathe, I can't see no option for live tools, nor there is a strategy of cutting that would suit my needs.
-if I choose mill/turn, and set the coord system as on any lathe (+Z away from chuck), I can't get the tool to be coaxial with X axis, it always wants to plunge from Z. Do I need to make a local coord system for this? If so, how do I explain the machine that I have only two axes available for machining: Z and C?
I can do this with no problem in a 4axis milling mode, but I thought the right way would be for it to be integral with all the turning sequences.
Any help will be appreciated greatly!

The best way to learn is trial error.
From what I know about ProMfg, it really doesn't care what construction view you are in-unless I'm in a some kind of a blunder for the last xxxx years...
