When passing military factory, I tripped and easily broke both, put full metal calipers but now I not sure about life expectancy.
You all think I made error?

Hi hkrok, look mate they're all the bl##dy same, as soon as the piddly tiny battery goes it's only good for a door stopper.
When the cheap digital calipers came on the market, sales of those tiny piddly batteries skyrocketed.

I use a Mitutoyo, (no shares or relatives in the company) dial type vernier caliper, cost a leedle bit more up front, but once only and it's always there, (like a good woman) when I need it, not counting down like the bl##dy battery gobbler.

When you guys stop investing all your profits in the battery manufacturers company, where the actual profit is made like torch manufacturers, and make a model that will sit in a holding device that will supply enough power to keep it going for about an hour, like a cordless drill etc, then I'll consider getting mine out, ditching it and buying another one, maybe yours.

I believe that you can get a high volume capacitor in place of the battery that will store enough energy to power the display for a couple of hours.
Get to it man, THIS IS WHAT I WANT, and the customer is always right, first rule of selling!
When I was selling, back in '75, last century, the first rule of selling was:- Find out what the customer wants and make damm sure he/she gets it, or your competitor will.

Have I just made a wake up call to the digital caliper/tiny piddly battery makers board of directors to reinvest their money somewhere else?
If I haven't then just maybe I'll have a go at designing my own, with a 3 hour duration capacitor, and then you might get a bit of competition from the other side of the pond.
Never could stand blatant advertising on an open forum.
    Ian.

'Lo Foam, have you got any oriental relatives by any chance, maybe just a slight slant in your eye, No? OK so I can't offend you, good.
So, Orchid glow flatter on purple people eating and caplaccipator go plop?

I would crawl through a mile of sh#t with bare knees over broken glass to get one of those verniers with an everlasting rechargeabler battery, like a cordless vacuum cleaner, that was ALWAYS there when I pushed the on button.

If I can't locate such an exotic rare as item I'll 'ave a go at designing one meself, begorrah!
That'll show 'em, we Brits are made of sterner stuff.

I suppose you could always have a wind up model, like one of those torches that last for 20 minutes with 30 seconds of cranking.
I've even considered strapping a AAA nimh rechargeable battery to the back of my current vernier, but if you could get a half sized flatter type AAA then it would work.

I've got an Etalon Swiss made vernier that had 2 rechargeable Nicad cells in it, one of the first digitals to come out, circa 1980, but as I was given it for nix, because the glass scale was cracked and the batteries had given up the ghost, it seems like a good candidate for investigation for a rebuild.
