We've just added a new milling machine to our lineup of desktop-sized CNC machines: the ACT bridge mill. This is built in the USA from high-quality components - precision ball screws, square-section linear ball-bearing rails, AC brushless spindle motor, etc. - and it fills a niche between the smaller Taig and Sherline machines I already sell and the larger Roland machines (which I also carry) that aren't recommended for cutting metal. This mill was made with metal in mind; it's particularly well-suited for aluminum, since the feed speeds and spindle speeds are fast enough to deal with it expeditiously. Its bridge design gives it good rigidity, and it runs under Mach3, which - as many people here on the Zone already know - is a great solution for CNC control under Windows.
The list price on it is $9450, but I can discount it to $8495. I've got one to demonstrate for people who can come to Oakland. I've been putting it through its paces myself - so far, it has been performing quite well.
