For anyone intersted i am offering a cnc lathe kit for the 9x20 chinese import lathe. the current kit uses standard nema 23 stepper motors. i have my unit running using 425 oz/in stepper motors with a xylotex controller and can achieve rapids at 90 IPM on both the z and x axis. the x axis has a special bronze anti backlash nut for long wear life and rides on an acme screw the z axis uses a 5/8 ball screw with dual ball nuts spring loaded with a custom preload adjuster so there is zero backlash on this axis as well. This is a completely bolt on kit. no extra drilling required. the kit will come with all brackets needed to install it to the lathe. you can reuse your original mounting hardware and whatever stepper or servo motors you choose. i will have some pics of the setup later this week. Kits in this configuration will run $450.00 plus shipping. thanks Jerry |

Guys, i know i promised some pics and video of this running but we are currently expanding our shop to accomodate our commercial customers. the home cnc components is being split off into its own business at another location so to better accomadate and provide tech support for the hobbyists. please be patient during this transition. thanks Jerry

ok guys we are getting close to having everything all setup. the prototype lathe is done and i will have pics and video up on friday afternoon(9/11). we will begin taking orders on friday afternoon, and the first kits will ship on Friday 9/18. again this kit is basically just the mechanical components to convert a 9x20 lathe from a manual operation to cnc. the kit can be used with standard nema motors either stepper or servo with motor mounted encoder. i will also have some add on parts available like a qctp kit which will include on gang tool block as well as a rear mount tool post for cut off operations. the base kit will be $450 and will convert the x and z axis. a threading kit will be available. if there are any questions or other items you'd like to see added please let me know and we will do our best to make them available. thanks Jerry

here are the long awaited pics. in this case the steppers are 425 oz in and can achieve rapids upwards of 100 IPM. shown in the second pic is the optional gang tooling holder for smaller parts. this also allows for a rear mounted cut off tool to be used. hopefully in the next week i will put some vids on youtube of a part being cut and the rapid moves.

lead time will be 2 weeks from order. just a reminder that the steppers and electrical components are not included at this time. in the future we will be offering a 3 phase motor upgrade and v belt pulley upgrade kit, as well as a threading pulse kit. our cnc can be used with the tailstock but with most smaller parts this is not an issue.
