Are these folks selling our E-mail addresses? I don't see a privacy policy. - - oooops - I see where they say that they won't sell it.

I guess I will pull out the ole junk E-mail address.

What the heck - I am in....not that I need it, but I will take one for the team.

Just seems to strange....

They are giving away X-Cad to 100,000 people that register, only when they have 100,000 people registered. The specs for the software are strange - Windows OS, 512 meg of Ram, what's up with that? Which version of Windows OS? What is needed with regard to video? That is usually a critical requirement for 3D CAD systems.

You would think if they were serious, they would include some "Real" information about the software, screen shots, specs, etc.

I think I will pass - seems way too fishy for my, even with a junk-mail address.

Who is behind X-CAD?
X-CAD is a branded product to help spread powerful 3D to anyone and everyone seeking a tool to design mechanical parts with. Though we would enjoy being transparent about our company, we want to focus on helping you, the CAD seeker, discover a product unbiased in any way from traditional product branding. We are looking forward to the pure delight you will have experiencing such powerful 3D software FREE.
Sounds to me like it is a "cover" to get people to try out a CAD program from an unnamed vendor...

I'm in!

Wonder if we could get this posted to slashdot?

Check the whois database, and you'll find it belongs to a person D.F. in Austin Texas with a Hotmail account.

Large software companies don't usually communicate through a person with Hotmail accounts I believe?

My guess is next round she will fill your disposable address with offers too good to pass.

I did a search on Google and found a link that talks about this. It gave this info from a returned email confirming regristration.

AlibreHost.alibre

If you want to verify just use x-cad in Google and take the second link.

Mike

ps my thought is that they will give 100,000 free seats of x-cad but it will only be good for a few days, or maybe weeks. It might also be one of those things where you have to pay maintainence fees!

Chris,
I have found "many" programs lately that will ONLY work with XP:{( and if you are going to do 3d, 512MB sounds reasonable.
Rant ON
This is the result of "everybody" accepting anything that MS puts out as "the only thing that is acceptable" We therefore have bloatware that could be done more reasonably with other operating systems and not be required to have "the latest and greatest" software (winders xp) and a processor that will do 100 teraflops and more memory than my harddrive ever conceived of

Rant OFF

I guess we will have to learn to live with it until something changes.

The best deal on 3D CAD software for mechanical design, period. Own one of the most powerful parametric solid modelers on the market FREE when 100,000 people register by August 1, 2005.
Cool. Another software company claiming they're the "most powerfull".

we would enjoy being transparent about our company
That's not a good sign...

I'll pass thanks.
