Hi.
I would like to start a tangential knife cutter build this summer for architectural model making. Materials to be cut would be 2 - 3 ply chipboard (gray cardboard) and corrugated cardboard.
Having seen this video on this site "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oW6JQ8D-780"]YouTube- Ploter do cięcia i bigowania tektury, gumy, pianek, skór,...
and seeing the images of the Carlson Design machines (http://www.carlsondesign.com/), I would like to know if anyone can help me spec the motors I'd need. This would be for x,y and z obviously as well as a-axis to rotate the knife. From the sound of it, that's an oscillating knife in the video so any insights on that would be welcome. And then there's the solenoid for pen up / pen down.
My entire current CNC knowledge is summed up by what's in the Solsylva router build manual. I was originally thinking of building a router first, but I realized I would have more applications for this and don't currently have the money to try both : ) . As the physics of pushing a knife thru cardboard are different from pushing a router I am now unsure about the force needed.
Thanks for any help on this.

we produce this kind of cutting machine, it use osccillating knife to cut corrugaed, drag knife to cut grey board. The air compressor to drave the osccillating knife up and down to cut the flexible material. And we use Panasonnic servo moter.
