    HELP

I have a 2.5.1 gear reduction unit with gecko motors. I either am brain dead from the setting up of all this today but I can not figure what I need to put in Mach 3 in the motor tuning. This is a 4x8 plasma table using candcnc and a precision plasma Gantry. Also what should my settings be for the z axis?

1591.55 steps per inch, with a 1" dia pinion.

2000 steps per rev on motor (10X microstepping from C&CNC), x 2.5 reduction = 5000 steps per pinion rev.

1" pinion travels 3.14159 inch per rev.

5000 steps, divided by 3.14159 = 1591.55077.......... etc., motor steps per inch of travel.

    Hope it helps!

Another way is Precision Plasma has suggested settings for all of it's gantry systems. It includes suggested Velocity and Acceleration settings as well. Make sure you tune the slaved axis the same as the master.

Thanks guys. Ron got with me. Now if I can figure out why I am getting a OpenGL error: invalid value when I try to transfer from lazy cam to Mach. I will be cutting. I changed the graphics card last night with no luck.

OPEN GL is a function of your Video Card/driver in the PC You may have to update the video card driver or add the OPenGL driver from the card mfg.

You must like doing things the hard way (:-) LazyCAM (free version) won't do plasma cutting worth spit,,,,,especially with the Precision Setup and our electronics.

So my wife figured it out. I would normally have a hard time saying that but her being a graphic designer I can say it proud. I program Allen Bradley and other plcs graphics do not matter. Lol. So Tom with that hard way comment what program should I use. I am all about the easy way. That's why I bought the plasma in the first place. Tired of making suspension brackets by hand.

The first thing I did was change the card. The problem was the damn thing was set to multiple screens. Also what screen should I be using with the set up you sent me. There are several plasma screens for Mach?

Don't get "screens" and profiles confused. The MACH profile is the stored settings for your hardware. It also points to which screen you see.

The CandCNC Installer (auto install) puts two Icons on the desktop for the correct MACH profiles. One is for Plasma and one is for router. Use the one for plasma. IT will load the correct screen set (ours for the DTHC).

SheetCAM TNG (demo comes on the software CD) has the correct POSTs for the system you have. The demo is limited to 150 lines of code so you can try some simple shapes. Use the MP1000-THC post to generate the G-code. Tutorials will help you get the concept of SheetCAM. Just remember it's a general purpose 2D/2.5D CAM program. SheetCAM TNG is $175.00 when purchased alone from the software author. You can get it with MACH3 in a Bundle from us at a discount for both programs.

There is a special Post that will let you use a scriber (marker) tool in the same run as plasma just by designating a different tool number.

    Tom,
You shipped me my complete system last week. I bought the software bundle minus the coral draw. I should have it on the disk then. I will look when I get home. This is all new to me so I appreciate the help. If you remember I am the one that called so mad about plasma cam and their add ons.

Well, that narrows it down to about a 10 calls in the last 30 days

You have everything you need on the CD. Load SheetCAM TNG and Add in the license. There are some Readme files that will cover how to add the license to MACH and to SheetCAM.

SheetCAM TNG has a plasma tool already defined and it will import a DXF from most CAD programs or an SVG directly from Inkscape (it's a Freeware drawing program that is on the CD as well)

If you have any problems call or post on the CandCNC Support Forum
