Where can I find these suggested velocity and accel settings?Another way is Precision Plasma has suggested settings for all of it's gantry systems. It includes suggested Velocity and Acceleration settings as well. Make sure you tune the slaved axis the same as the master.
Go to the specific gantry kit you use and open the engineering drawing (PDF) there are a set of "Suggested Performance Settings" on each document. Most important is the Step per Inch settings which is the "calibration" number. That of course will change if your gantry has the optional belt reduction units.
It's not too hard to figure out the numbers by counting teeth or threads per inch on the leadscrew. The fixed number is it takes 2000 steps to spin the motor one complete rev. The rest is just finding the step up or step down on ratio each section provides.
The velocity and acceleration are "suggestions". While a non-belt drive unit can easily hit 1000 IPM do you really want to move that fast? Acceleration is always better than raw speed in plasma cutting.
