    4 x 5 Precision Plasma Build

I am in the process of building a new machine and i thought i would share the details with anyone willing to listen. hehe

    Ok here We go..

Purchased a 5x5 gantry kit from precision plasma. Received within a week, what a wonderful piece of engineering.
Ron @ precision plasma was awesome to deal with, I worked with Ron to come up design for a 4 x 5 open c channel frame (really close to the 2 x 3 frame).
I had the frame & pan built locally. got in about two weeks.
Attaching the rails to the frame only took maybe 1 hour. So easy.
Purchased the hypertherm powermax 45 plasma cutter with hand torch setup.
I purchased the Candcnc Dragon-Cut 300 oz setup with 3 lines - 5' extra long and 1 10' extra long. ordered 1/21/10. called today and was told it was still 10 days out.
Since I have no electronics to work with this weekend I am going to work on the air lines, filters, compressors & dryers.

Wow...that looks really nice! How deep is the water table and did you design it yourself or is it built from the drawings that Ron provided? I'm looking at building a table myself soon. Hope I can build the frame to look as nice as yours!

Vacextar - The pan is 3" deep, Ron and I colaberated over about 1 month designing this setup. I can't say enough good things about him and his products. This gantry setup is sweet! I can't wait to put stepper motors on.

Nice looking table. Youll be just as impressed with Tom's electronics when you get it. What are you planning for the air supply system?

Teknition- I just called on my electronics today and i should expect them next week. AWESOME!!
Last weekend the darn water heater went out so i had to replace that.
So here are my plans for the air system. First i only have 1 220v outlet for the garage so & can't plug in the 60 gal compressor. So here is the big idea?
Pump the large compressor up to 150 psi (unplug) plug in the plasma in, set the line out fo the compressor @ say 100 psi and run a series of compressors inline of each other with check valves. I have two campbell Hausfield 2 hp old school compressors with 6.3 cfm @ 90 psi. one with a 30 Gal and the Other with 21 gal. So @ the start I will have 111 gal @ 125 psi. So when the pressure drops below say 100 psi the small compressors will kick on @ different cycle time. not sure on that tweak yet but I think this setup should prolong my run time.
I will have a pressure regulator on each compressor with a globe dryer.
Next I will make a board with a a regulator & globe dryer attached to a desiccant dryer from harbor freight, i think its like $40.00 then plumb this out two outlets. now another line from the dryer board to a $8.00 desiccant dryer
to a T with a large pressure gauge and than finally to the back of the plasma machine. I will take some photo's. Wow that's a mouth full.

If you only have one 220V outlet in the garage what do you have available in your service box for empty breaker slots? Is the service box in the garage or in proximity you can run another 220 line? You have likely thought of this already but I would get more power out there.

Bill -You would laugh, I actually have a 220v outlet on the outside my house with a 20ft 220v extension cord. I am planning on moving this spring/summer and i don't want to stick another dime in this house.

    Talking Changed my mind..

Well I got bored with the compressor setup as soon as my electronics showed up this friday 02/25/11. I got the steppers and the controler box mounted. I'm not really shure if I like where the controler box is located but I'm not one for bending over and throwing out my back. I took some photo's of my wiring setup. I like to keep it simple. I need to pick up a craigslist computer with xp this week so I have something to test drive the controller and motors.

    Question Question?

I'm not really sure how to search this site. I have all my home, limmit, & e-stop switches mounted and ready to go. I need to drill an 11/16" hole in the Candcnc enclosure for all the wiring/bushing. Does anyone have any photo's or a safe dimension location to drill?

Right hand side low, just keep in mind the cover sits back it is not flush. So if you drill to far forward the cover will interfere with the hole you drill. Hope that makes sence.. I have not updated my build with pictures of the electronics mounting and holes I made.

    Red face Cut Quality..

Ok so i skipped a few steps.. I have cut about 2' x 4' of widgets trying to dial this baby in. I cut about 25 of these widgets, actually they are the spacer i need between the clamp hasp on the torch and the handle base. So, now since i have never seen a plasma cut from somewhere else. is this good?
Can I expect a better cut? Without the waves?
Here are the settings I got the best cut for .075 mild steel
    Hypertherm Approx 39A , 104v
    Sheetcam 245 IPM
    Mach3 1000.2 Vel, 65 Accel
    Thc 18% 2/4 Volt

Is this a z thing? I tried running with thc off but i think there is a default set somewhere that turns in on automatic.

No dross or very very little.
Slight Bevel, If I lower the volts below 96 I have to tap out the part from sheet.

I read an old post that suggests removing ground from sensor card to stop electrical interference?
I have the Dragon cut thc setup.
    Where is the smart-kut screen?
No Ground, This widget cuts so quick i can't get my hand on it to check for vibration?
