| mastercam purchase ? Thinking about purchasing v8.1 from original owner. Has original box, cd, & hasp. First of all--is this okay? Secondly, if it is possible, does anyone know about upgrading to current version? TIA for your help. |

| Best thing to do is call MasterCAM.

| +1 ger21... Not sure of legality issues. But MasterCam identifies its users and customers by the SIM (hasp) number. If you call them for support or upgrades, you'll likely run into problems. Your best bet is to call your local dealer. You can purchase V9 right now, with maintenance and with the upgrade to 'X' when its released. Besides, if you do go to version X, the V8 Hasp will not work with it. You'll have to purchase a new one and since you're not the registered user of the 'used' HASP, you may have to purchase a system anyway. ![]() (technicality, edited to 'user') Last edited by psychomill; 04-19-2005 at 05:00 PM. |

| As I remember their EULA you dont own Master CAM you only purchase the rights to use it,the program is still owned by CNC Software Inc. |

| Last time I looked it was still around $13K. Definitely not within the range of the average job shop. You should evaluate your needs carefully before buying any cadcam package. Mastercam is top notch but many of their customers could have fulfilled their needs with a $1K program. OTOH, if you can buy V8 reasonably and CNC Software will allow it, then that might be your best option. V8 is perfectly good software. And software doesn't wear out. |

| I have been told that transfers are not allowed. If you're looking for alternatives... Look at OneCNC. I bet you can get a brand new seat for what you were going to pay for Mastercam used... |

| UPDATE: Here is an interesting thread regarding the sale of used software. Apparently, EULA's that restrict this right do not hold up in court. http://www.woodweb.com/cgi-bin/forum...pl?read=389810 I suppose Mastercam can refuse customer support but they can't prevent sale/purchase of used software, regardless of their wording in the EULA about not owning the software.
