If you have DNC capabilities in your CNC Control I think you can use Cimco Edit.

Create a NC file then use the Chook called Section.dll this will take the NCI file and make them in to smaller ones that you can feed one at a time.

My experience was that breaking the programs up lasted about a week at which point instead of having 3 or 4 programs I was getting 30 or 40. Not a real practical way of making a part.

That was do to moving into high speed type of machining lots of light cuts at fast feeds. I also found out my machine moved a lot smoother at high speed if I got rid of all G2 and G3 moves and did everything with G1 which tends to make for very large programs.

DNC or a new control was the only way for me.

Hello Cadcam, can you elaborate a bit more on the procedure that you used with this .dll,it looks promising.(and crafty)
Can you control the size of the broken program to like make them the size to fit on a floppy?
Also when you do this, does it add an M30 with return to home or can you just keep feeding it with only a pause and then keep on going with the program as if it was one continuous program?
Thank's
Claude

Claude,

I believe that he means that you can Divide One Tools Operation into sections like from Sequence Block N100 through N800. Then N801 through N1600, N1601 - N2400, N2400 - N3600 and so on.

Hi Tobtaxis,
This is what I'm doing now in notepad, but it's painstaking.Doing it with cimco edit or something else must surely be easier.Until Dynapath comes out with there new SD card interface sometime in 2010, I'm stuck with messing around to find a better way.
DNC would be great, but com 1 and 2 are dead in the machine. The hard drive is 1.5G but short of taking it out and plugging it directly into my pc to put a program that is bigger than a floppy on it is beyond my knowledge at this time.
There is a way to merge programs on the HD in DOS,but I am a little scared of DOS unless someone out there is willing to walk me through.
Thank's

You may want to start a new thread for that DOS solution. I have no clue, but imagine there are more than a handful here that do know.

The ports on a machine are usually a RS-232c and are for comms and DNC link and require a special cable.
This is your best avenue........ get them working, connect to a PC and eliminate floppies altogether

If you are using CAM software to create code, 90% of your programs will have to be broken up to go on a floppy

Go to the forum for your machine, and put your problem to those guys, 9 times out of 10, they have fixed these problems before

if using dynapath and you have your machine contected to the rs232c - com1on your computer go :
-mode select (c) this will get you to your catalog and if posible delete everything in the catalog if posible if not dont wory about it, then
-in the catalog type RS232C and hit enter. as soon as you do this go to mode select and it will disable option 3 i believe, anyways as soon as you hit enter you will notice something happening .
so then all you do is go :
mode select- 1 - reset - cycle start . (nothing will happen at this point
leave it as it is and go to your computer and hit send program and be ready cus is going to triger your machine to come on, turn the on the spindel and move. it will start buffering the program from your computer, it means it gets it from your computer in small paquets instead of the whole program on the machines memory that way you dont have to worry about the size of your program. REALLY IMPORTANT SET AND CALIBRATE ALL YOUR TOOLS CUS AFTER IT STARTS RUNING THERE IS NO STOPING IT JUST ADJUSTING FEED AND SPINDLE AND BEFORE YOU GO AND TRY IT ON A BIG PROGRAM PRACTICE WITH SOME SIMPLE DRILLING UNTILL YOU GET THE HANG OF IT . IF YA WANT WILL MAKE A YOUTUBE VIDEO BUT YA HAVE TO ASK FIRST BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO MAKE IT JUST FOR THE HELL OF IT AND HOPE SOMEONE WATCHES LOL WELL HOPE THIS HELPS
