Exclamation X4 post conversion from X3 changing flags in post

Had a good one the other night. We are using a customized OSP200 4th axis post. When X4 converted it it changed the the flag that allowed the post to optimize moves by moving X;Y and Z simultaneously. We had it turned to Z then X and Y, break moves< in X3. Since we work with a lot of surfacing tool paths we have it set that way so it won't shortcut through a part. Verify looked real good but after the coolant cleared we noticed that the part had been nibbled away at in an odd way on a corner. The guy that programmed it was studying it and looking at his tool paths when he noticed the shape closely matched the feed lines for a small radius bullnose that did all the surface finishing. He found the problem in the post. Got to love CIMCO file compare It showed a couple of other flags that where different in our backed up post from the converted version. Anyhow I thought I'd post it for what it is worth.

Have you visited the eMastercam site ?

Spotted this topic about upgrading

The link for upgrading from X3 to X4

Not yet sure of problems coming from a still earlier version.

Another link for preparing for upgrades. Like backup of current version settings and "Add-ons"

I have had good success with updating. but I know there are changes in the MP posting system that can cause a few issues. did you keep the log when you updated and did you check for the errors.

Our IT guy did. He said he didn't have any errors when we asked him about it and the reseller asked as well. It was a simple flag change but significant when the material is being supplied by the customer. Luckily our planners usually either request or purchase an extra piece when certified materials aren't common stock sizes we keep on hand. The good news is I'm getting a new computer, Dell certified for MC, next week to see if that clears up the other problems. If so the lead and other ME/Programmer in the dept should get new ones too.
