MasterCam 5 axis Posts (not free)

Hello,
I read the rules on not asking for free posts and completely understand the reasons why.
It also states "contact your MasterCam dealer 1st".
Now i dont mean to razzle any feathers here with my request, but why couldn't I ask all of you with 5 axis post writing experience to submit competitive bids to help us generate posts for our company?

Myself an another programmer inherited a shop that previously used only Catia and we are determined to keep it running using MasterCam. We are looking for an individual that can assist with not only the posts for several different machines, but also to visit our facility and give us a crash course on how to set-up a 5 axis machine, how gage lengths are determined etc.

A 5-axis post is not like a 3 or 4 axis post

2 parts make up " a post"
a compiled .PSB - usually only accessed by higher level post developers ( even your reseller would not have access to these posts)
a .PST - even yourself can access this one, it customises the compiled post to suit your specific needs, toolchanges, axis configurations etc.

Then these are locked to your hasp only, a dealer hasp also has " access all areas". This stops my post working on your Mcam seat.

This info may assist you in setting your search criteria for a person to fill the role you foresee. 5-axis programming experience, yes, but don't expect him to be capable of re-writing a complete 5-axis post

If you don't mind my suggestion: I would not not dump Catia for it is a great program, plus it would open possibilities for future work as your company grow. The larger companies like my former employer "Boeing" insist that it's contractors are seated with Catia. If I were in your position I would subcontract my Catia programming with Bryan Felsher at True Precision. I hear that his rates are very resonable.

Mastercam is a great program as well and will be even better with the upcoming X4 release so it is well worth keeping as well. There are many Guru's at the Emastercam forum that might be able to assist you but be very careful in how you word your post in seeking that help. There is a few that I would recommend but the one that sticks out the in regards to what your needs are would be 'Crazy^Millman. I am told that he is one of the up and coming Mastercam stars.

Mr Magoo - the mathematics involved in a 5 axis post are, without a doubt, going to be held as "Proprietary" even though they are public domain. This is not easy to develop, so no-one wants their hard work copied or traded or "given away".

Mastercam is one of the few companies that doesn't encrypt all of thier posts. Only 5 Ax.

This is a major selling point of Mc.

You have the ability to customize even the 5Ax posts. You just don't get to see how the 5x matrix is manipulated.

Any local reseller is very likeley to be just as competitve as another, as the price of a custom post won't likeley exeed the cost of the software.

Thanks for your time. I am interested in learning how to machine using a 5 axis machine. I would also like to get into making more complex geometries. I have read a few books, worked with some software, but only on a limited basis and only 3 axis. I have done some mill-turning.

Should I try to work for a place that has a more complex machine or head to school? The military is not an option but I would like to thank all the Veterans for their services.

Cad cam consulting should be your mastercam dealer in your area. They are experts with 5 axis machining, and can make post for you. They built a custom post for my 5 axis machine, also the support has been excellent with these people.

I am an applications engineer for a machine tool company and we suggest In-House-Solutions to our customers using Mastercam. Their posts have been the best for our 5 axis machines and the customers have been very happy.
