Hello all! I'm trying to modify my mastercam post to run my new (old) machine. A Hurco Slv-40, with an Ultimax 2 controller. My reseller wants me to buy X4 to give me a post, but I'd rather just make the thing work, for now. I have a bobcad post, but can't figure out how bobcad posts actually work... It doesn't have a .pst file. Anyway, does anyone have any insight on how to change the mastercam post, or is there a resource about how to edit them? I know that when it goes into a canned cycle, it switches to absolute, and it doesn't like long decimals on it's feedrates... Thanks for any insight! -Parker |

| You do get "generic" posts with your Mastercam insall disks Mastercam will install a couple but you have to select "Instal Post Processors" to get them all These milling posts are found in the "C:\McamX\Mill\Posts\" directory and have the extension .PST---the "C:\Mcamx\" is the install root directory You should try all that you think would work, select the closest match, and then modify that post to suit your preferences. ( zip the rest to leave your selected files, remane it so a re-install doesn't overwrite a good modified post ). Always copy the original post ( known working version ) before doing any mods. and only alter a small section, save, and test----extremely hard to find where you missed a comma, a dollar sign ($) etc. ---any mistakes here makes all NC code into crash fodder. The original is there to enable roll-back to lastest changes. Editing can be done in any text editor, CimcoEdit and the Mastercam editors supplied can be used for this purpose. PS a BobCAD post for a mill has the .MILLPST extension and is not compatable with Mastecam |

| It is best to start a new hread, if the topic is changed. Obviously your post has nothing to do with BOBcad Just to know what support you can get from a Mastercam reseller, and how basic I should relay info to you Do you have access to support ? What experience have you had with Mcam ? Can you setup a LMD file and link in the control definition file and a post ? Can you do basic editing of a post ? You have a Fanuc machine with a Fanuc controller The generic Fanuc 2-axis lathe post ( that comes with mcam ) may be the best starting point that needs little mods to suit your new machine or try-out the X3 post from In-House thru the eMastercam site A CNC program is/can be broken up into zones
Your job is to:- Create a simple operation in mastercam, post the code, and try it out on the machine. Modify the NC code to make it work, note your changes. The post then needs to be "adjusted" to match the "working code". Then you go onto proving out multiple ops and modify the post until it puts out good code. We all tend to help or guide each other, but please don't expect us to do it for you. |
