    What's a post processor?...

It's OK I'm not that stupid I do have some idea of what it is but I'm either too tired or my brain has been over worked whilst finalizing my drawings.

Anyway the question is if I am designing my own machine which is a standard XYZ +A machine and using Mastercam and Mach3 which post processor do I use??? I have always been under the impression that the post processor is used by the tool path creating program to generate the G-code required for program which tells the motors what to do. I accept I'm being blunt with my descriptions but if anyone could clear this up for me as to what I'm supposed to do in this situation with regards to my setup I would really be grateful.
